Guinea exported 8.9 million tons of iron ore in the third quarter, up from 6 million tons in the prior three months, according to government data. Baowu-Winning accounted for 6.55 million tons and Simfer shipped 2.16 million tons.
Two of Simandou's mine blocks are held by the China and Singapore-led Baowu Winning Consortium Simandou, while the remaining two are owned by Simfer, a joint venture between Rio Tinto Group and Chinalco.
Macquarie Group said the ramp-up of the Simandou project has countered supply declines in other regions; if October shipment volumes hold, full-year exports could reach roughly 28 million tons, subject to weather conditions. The bank projected that global iron ore supply will rise by about 14 million tons in 2026. [SMM Iron Ore]
