【SMM Aluminum Flash News】Novelis Produces First Coil at US Recycling and Rolling Plant, Targets Commercial Shipments

Published: Oct 23, 2026 18:33 (GMT+8)
Novelis announce that its $5 billion aluminum recycling and rolling facility in Bay Minette, Alabama, had successfully produced its first cold-rolled aluminum coil, marking a major commissioning milestone. Once fully operational, the facility is designed to produce 600,000 mt/year of rolled aluminum products, while its recycling center will be capable of processing more than 15 billion used beverage cans annually. Commercial shipments are expected to begin in Q2 2027. The project could significantly increase domestic UBC recycling demand as operations ramp up, although first-coil production does not indicate full commercial capacity.

【SMM Aluminum Flash News】Americas' 5-Series Aluminum FRP Demand Expands, North American Consumption to Reach 2.23Mmt
Demand for 5xxx-series aluminum flat-rolled products (FRP) across the Americas is projected to grow, supported by automotive lightweighting, shipbuilding and infrastructure investment. North American consumption is expected to increase from 1.79 million mt in 2025 to 2.23 million mt by 2032, representing growth of approximately 24.6%, with demand reaching around 2.10 million mt by 2030. Growth will be driven by US automotive and marine applications, alongside Canada's low-carbon aluminum industry and Mexico's expanding automotive manufacturing base. Meanwhile, South American consumption is forecast to rise from 502,710 mt in 2025 to 602,020 mt by 2032, an increase of approximately 19.8%, with Brazil remaining the region's largest market. Automotive manufacturing, transportation and infrastructure investment are expected to support demand, although trade policies, raw material costs and downstream processing capacity could influence the pace of growth.
