First small and medium-sized pumped storage project of the 15th Five-Year Plan period put into operation
On October 16, the first unit of the CGN Tuanfeng Weijiachong Pumped Storage Power Station, the first small and medium-sized pumped storage project put into operation in China during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, entered commercial operation. As the first small and medium-sized pumped storage power station in China to adopt a "racetrack-type" semi-underground powerhouse, the project has built the deepest semi-underground powerhouse shaft in China to date, which will strongly support the construction of a generation-grid-load-storage coordinated and interactive power system in Hubei Province and inject strong clean energy momentum into the economic development of the old revolutionary base area in the Dabie Mountains.
The project is located in Weijiachong Village, Dupi Township, Tuanfeng County, Huanggang City, Hubei Province, with a total installed capacity of 298,000 kW. It is equipped with two reversible pump-turbine generator units, each with a unit capacity of 149,000 kW, and consists of upper and lower reservoirs and a water conveyance and power generation system. Unit 1 is the one put into operation this time, while Unit 2 is in the commissioning stage and is planned to be put into operation within the year.
