【SMM Aluminum Flash News】Hindalco Cancels $125M Acquisition of US AluChem Due to Delays

Published: Oct 19, 2026 10:26 (GMT+8)
According to foreign media reports, Hindalco has cancelled its acquisition plan for US-based specialty alumina manufacturer AluChem. Aditya Birla Group (of which Hindalco is a subsidiary) stated in a press release that the share purchase agreement has been terminated due to prolonged closing delays beyond the control of both companies. The statement continued, “Hindalco’s overall strategy to scale up high-value, technology-driven value-added products (VAPs) in its specialty alumina business remains unchanged, and the company will continue to evaluate various opportunities, including those in the US, to align with this strategy.” The $125 million investment aimed to expand the production scale of ultra-low sodium alumina products.

6063 Aluminum Billet Inventory in Two Regions: Destocking Continues, Wuxi Sees Slight Inventory Buildup [SMM Data]
Oct 19 news: As of Oct 19, SMM data showed that social inventory of 6063 aluminum billets across the two regions in China stood at the 100,000 mt level, down further from the previous trading day, marking the fifth consecutive working day of destocking. By region, Guangdong saw notable destocking, serving as the main source of the decline across the two regions; Wuxi posted a slight inventory buildup, but the growth was limited and did not alter the overall destocking trend. Overall, post-holiday production resumptions among end-users drove aluminum billet consumption, with inventory in both regions continuing to fall, lending short-term support to processing fees.
