[Indonesia Sees IEU-CEPA Doubling Steel and Manufacturing Exports to Europe Within Three Years]

Published: Oct 19, 2026 10:12 (GMT+8)
Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade projects that exports of iron and steel, textiles, and automotive products to Europe could double under the Indonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA), at the earliest three years after implementation. Director General of International Trade Negotiations Johni Martha said the estimate is based on the ministry’s statistical calculations, does not apply to all exports to Europe, and should not be treated as a certainty. The government hopes ratification can begin in late October or early November 2026, depending on the EU’s internal process. Martha said the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) were not part of the IEU-CEPA negotiations, but the agreement includes a dedicated chapter providing a dialogue forum for trade issues that arise after it takes effect.

[India's Coal Ministry Proposes Stricter Mining Compliance Rules]
India’s Coal Ministry has proposed amendments allowing suspension of coal and lignite mining operations for violations of approved mining plans. The draft rules provide for a 15-day show-cause notice in cases of continued non-compliance and require annual board-level compliance declarations. Authorities may suspend mining operations fully or partially if the response is unsatisfactory. The proposed measures could have implications for the coal supply chain linked to the steel industry, although their direct impact on coking coal availability and steel production remains uncertain.
