Zijin Mining's Bisha Mine in Eritrea Halts Operations Due to Fuel Shortage, Affecting Cargo Deliveries

Published: Oct 16, 2026 10:37 (GMT+8)
According to foreign media reports, the beneficiation plant at Zijin Mining's Bisha mine in Eritrea has suspended processing since last week, and clients have been informed that cargo deliveries may be affected. The company said that due to a temporary regional fuel shortage, maintenance originally scheduled for year-end was brought forward. Fuel supply has now stabilized, but no clear production resumption timeline has been announced. Zijin Mining is responsible for the control and day-to-day operations of the Bisha mine, while the Eritrean National Mining Corporation holds a 45% stake. The mine produced 83,000 mt of zinc in 2025.
