[SMM Coal Flash] Some Coking Coal Mines in Shanxi Resume Operations

Published: Oct 13, 2026 11:17 (GMT+8)
Some coking coal mines in Shanxi have reportedly resumed operations, particularly in Lüliang. However, the overall recovery remains slow due to safety rectification requirements and production capacity restrictions. As of October 12, 39 mines across Changzhi, Taiyuan, Jinzhong, Lüliang and Linfen remained suspended, affecting a combined annual capacity of 41.5 million tonnes.

[SMM Coal Flash] China Qinfa’s Indonesian Raw Coal Output More Than Doubles to 7.07 Million Tonnes in January-September
China Qinfa Group Limited’s Sumber Daya Energi (SDE) coal operation in South Kalimantan produced 7.07 million tonnes of raw coal in the first nine months of 2026, up 104% year on year. The increase was supported by the operation of a fully mechanised longwall mining face at SDE Mine 1, which expanded production capacity. Coal trading volume rose 46% year on year to 4.64 million tonnes over the same period, driven by the expansion of overseas customer markets. Trading volume of washed coal increased 131%, while overall coal sales grew more slowly than raw coal output as the sales mix shifted toward a higher proportion of washed coal.

[SMM Coal Flash] India’s Coking Coal Demand Projected to Triple to 236 Million Tonnes by 2047
India’s draft National Steel Policy-Vision 2047 projects annual coking coal demand to rise to 236 million tonnes by 2047, from 72 million tonnes currently, as the country expands its steelmaking capacity. India imports around 92% of its coking coal requirements. The draft policy proposes diversifying supply sources through overseas asset acquisitions, expanding domestic coal washeries, securing long-term supply arrangements and optimising coal blends to reduce import dependence.
