Summary: As of now, total alumina inventory in China continued to increase, with the pace of inventory buildup accelerating somewhat. By segment: raw material inventory at aluminum smelters increased somewhat, with downstream stockpiling willingness picking up before the holiday. Finished product inventories at alumina refineries continued to accumulate, with pressure on finished products persisting amid high production. Port inventory edged down and basically stabilized. In-transit and platform stockpiled inventory increased somewhat. Warrant inventory rose slightly. On the industry front, weekly alumina production in China continued to rise recently, with growth mainly coming from the sustained release of new capacity in Guangxi, coupled with the full recovery of enterprises in Shanxi previously affected by red mud pond issues. Meanwhile, operating rates in Shandong and Henan pulled back somewhat. Overall supply stayed high, further aggravating the supply-demand surplus. Futures prices consolidated on a weak note at low levels, market trading activity declined, and both long and short sides turned cautious and wait-and-see; downstream aluminum smelters mainly purchased as needed, with slight raw material restocking before the holiday, and no concentrated stockpiling was observed. Looking ahead, metallurgical-grade alumina operating capacity is expected to stay high, existing capacity is expected to remain stable, and the weekly operating rate is expected to continue rising. No maintenance or production cut plans have been learned from enterprises so far. With winter approaching, aluminum smelters will gradually start stockpiling, and supply pressure is expected to keep increasing. On the inventory side, high production and downstream stocking offset each other, and the national alumina total inventory is expected to continue the inventory buildup trend after the holiday. On the price side, the supply-demand surplus pattern remains unchanged and upward drivers are weak, so spot prices are expected to mainly fluctuate steadily within a narrow range on a weak note.

Domestic and overseas aluminum prices rebound from lows; amid mixed bullish and bearish factors, aluminum prices maintain a fluctuating trend [SMM Aluminum Morning Meeting Summary]
[Aluminum prices at home and abroad recover from lows and rebound; bullish and bearish factors interweave, keeping aluminum prices in a fluctuating adjustment] Macro-wise, high US Treasury yields and a strong US dollar continue to weigh on the valuation of the nonferrous metals sector. Industry-wise, the actual improvement in demand during China's traditional peak season has not fully met prior expectations, and downstream purchasing has turned more cautious in a high-price environment, weakening support for prices. On Monday, aluminum ingot inventory destocked by 35,000 mt, providing some price support. Overall, short-term aluminum prices face interwoven bullish and bearish factors, and are expected to maintain a fluctuating adjustment trend in the near term.

Metro Mining Ships 659,000 mt of Bauxite in September; Reviews Annual Guidance Due to Disruptions
[SMM Aluminum Express News] Metro Mining ships 659,000 mt of bauxite in September as logistical disruptions prompt annual guidance review. Australian bauxite producer Metro Mining reported shipments of 659,000 wet metric tonnes (WMT) from its Bauxite Hills Mine in Queensland in September 2026, bringing cumulative shipments for January–September to 4.013 million WMT. According to its October 12 operational update, a sandbank collapse reduced the barging channel depth from 1.8 metres to 1.3 metres, restricting barging capacity. Mining operations were also affected by increased employee absenteeism and turnover, limiting equipment utilisation. Channel maintenance commenced in early October, with normal approved depth expected to be restored within two weeks. Meanwhile, Metro's offshore floating terminal Ikamba has achieved planned availability and loading rates of approximately 2,400 tonnes/hour, while a second floating crane has returned to service. Despite these improvements, Metro is reviewing its full-year 2026 shipment guidance as it addresses the operational disruptions. The company has not yet announced a revised target, leaving uncertainty over its remaining bauxite shipments this year.
