[SMM Stainless Steel Flash] Italian stainless scrap edges up on tight supply as mill demand stays weak

Published: Oct 08, 2026 11:06 (GMT+8)
Italian and European stainless mills kept scrap purchases limited in September, with large volumes of imported billets due by year-end, according to Assofermet. Prices still edged up despite weaker LME nickel, driven by reduced availability rather than demand. India remains a key export outlet, but the EU's proposal to exclude India from its waste shipment destination list from May 2027 could cut off that route.

Pre-Diwali restocking may lift October activity, though volatile nickel and freight costs keep buyers cautious.
