Holiday purchases fall short of expectations; titanium market remains stable [SMM titanium spot report]

[SMM Titanium Spot Express: Pre-holiday Purchases Fall Short of Expectations, Titanium Market Remains Stable]. Pre-holiday stockpiling fell short of expectations, with many orders postponed until after the National Day holiday. Although there was slight destocking, the extent was limited, and overall demand remained weak.

SMM, September 28:

SMM, September 28: The SMM titanium dioxide index was reported at 14,059 yuan/mt. Mainstream quotations for rutile titanium dioxide in the market ranged from 12,500 to 14,800 yuan/mt, with an average price of 13,650 yuan/mt; anatase titanium dioxide was quoted at 12,000 to 13,000 yuan/mt, and chloride-process titanium dioxide at 15,300 to 16,800 yuan/mt. Titanium dioxide prices remained flat overall today.

The titanium dioxide market held steady today. On the supply side, as the market recovered, some enterprises that had previously halted or cut production gradually resumed production, increasing overall supply pressure for titanium dioxide. On the demand side, pre-holiday stockpiling ahead of the double festival fell short of expectations, and the prevailing market view is that these delayed orders will be fulfilled after the National Day holiday. The recent modest price recovery has driven inventory destocking at some enterprises, but the degree of destocking remained weak, and the broader market structure has not changed, with demand still subdued. As supply growth becomes evident and downstream new orders are released only to a limited extent, the titanium dioxide market is expected to move sideways in the short term.

Kazera Executes Northern Cape Mineral Sands Right
[SMM Titanium Flash] Kazera Global said Whale Head Minerals’ mining right over Sea Concession 2A in South Africa’s Northern Cape was formally executed on 23 September, following a grant announced on 2 September. Disclosed on 24 September, the execution covers a 3,095-hectare heavy mineral sands development that includes rutile. Under Kazera’s agreement with South Africa AT Investments, it triggers a further US$1.75 million advance payment against future production. Kazera did not say in this release that the payment had been received. Execution clears a regulatory step for the proposed expansion. Under the agreement, the partner is responsible for capital and operating funding, while Whale Head Minerals retains a 20% cost-free production entitlement. Kazera targets commercial production from enlarged operations in the first quarter of 2027. That timetable and the proposed volumes are plans, not output already achieved at Concession 2A.

Amaero Postpones Nasdaq IPO, Expansion Plans Unaffected Amid Market Caution
【SMM Titanium Flash】Recently, Amaero, a producer of spherical titanium alloy and refractory metal powders, announced that it has postponed its originally planned IPO on Nasdaq due to unfavorable market conditions. The company had intended to raise approximately $52.6 million, and the announcement of the postponement came just two days after the filing, reflecting the current cautious attitude of the US stock market towards small and medium-sized advanced manufacturing IPOs. The company emphasized that its existing expansion plans remain unaffected, and the fourth EIGA atomization system is still scheduled to be put into production in June 2027, at which point the annual production capacity will increase from 680 tons to 920 tons. In the first half of fiscal year 2026, revenue reached approximately $7.4 million, representing a more than six-fold increase year-on-year, but the net loss widened to $13.4 million. This failed IPO highlights the capitalization pressure faced by the titanium powder additive manufacturing sector amid high demand growth and profit pressure.
