[SMM Coal Flash] Indonesia Plans Energy Sector BLU for Coal and Gas Supply

Indonesia’s government is discussing plans to establish an Energy Sector Public Service Agency (BLU Energi) to consolidate coal and natural gas supply for power plants. Under a draft Presidential Regulation circulated in August 2026, BLU Energi would oversee coal and gas planning, procurement and distribution to ensure supply continuity. The proposal aims to strengthen energy security, improve supply efficiency and optimise domestic resources. The proposal remains under discussion and has not yet been approved.

[SMM Coal Flash] Indonesia Looks to Converting Low-Calorie Coal into Gas and Fuel

Indonesia’s government is considering plans to convert low-calorie coal into gas and fuel. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said the plan follows President Prabowo Subianto’s direction to strengthen national energy security amid uncertain global geopolitical conditions. Bahlil said current technologies allow low-calorie coal to be processed into gas and oil. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is studying the use of low-calorie coal as an alternative feedstock for fuel production. Several companies have offered to cooperate with the government on developing coal processing technologies, with the plan now under discussion as part of efforts to optimise domestic energy resources.

[SMM Coal Flash] ESDM Approves Bayan Resources’ 2026 RKAB Revision

Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has approved the 2026 RKAB revisions for PT Bayan Resources Tbk’s three subsidiaries, PT Tiwa Abadi, PT Tanur Jaya and PT Fajar Sakti Prima. The revised RKAB provides an additional coal production quota of around 15-20 million tonnes for the three subsidiaries.

[SMM Coal Flash] New Hope Reports 11.5 Million Tonnes of Saleable Coal Production in FY2026

Australian coal miner New Hope Corporation Limited has released its full-year results for the 2026 financial year, reporting saleable coal production of 11.5 million tonnes and coal sales of 11.8 million tonnes. Production growth was supported by the continued ramp-up of the New Acland Mine and strong performance at the Bengalla Mine in the second half of the financial year. Underlying EBITDA reached AUD514 million, while net profit after tax stood at AUD161 million for FY2026.
