[SMM PV Flash] Grid Import Rights Constrain 69 MW German Solar-Plus-Storage Project

On September 20, Kenya Power issued a maintenance notice, planning to carry out power grid maintenance on September 21 in parts of Nairobi, Kericho, and Nyeri counties, with affected users experiencing temporary power outages during the work. In parts of Ridgeways, Nairobi County, the planned outage is from 9:00 to 17:00 local time, affecting Glee Hotel, Astrol petrol station, and nearby users. In parts of Kericho County, the planned outage is from 8:30 to 17:00, affecting hospitals, schools, markets, and factories, among other users; in parts of Nyeri County around Kagwathi and Tetu Technical Vocational College, the planned outage is from 9:00 to 17:00. This arrangement is part of routine local grid maintenance, with the longest planned outage lasting 8.5 hours.

At 09:58 on September 19, the first batch of 101.4 MW units of the Jiangsu Huadian Yangzhou Jiangdu Xiaoji Phase II 300 MW fishery-solar hybrid PV project was connected to the grid, with project progress released on September 20. The project is located in Xiaoji Town, Jiangdu District, Yangzhou City, covering an area of approximately 6,650 mu, with an AC-side installed capacity of 300 MW and a DC-side capacity of approximately 400.01 MWp. It adopts a development approach combining PV power generation with aquaculture, utilizing the upside space for power generation while preserving the water area's aquaculture function. The project uses 710 W, 715 W, and 725 W monocrystalline silicon bifacial modules and large power inverters, and accommodates both power generation and aquaculture through bracket tilt angles and pond avoidance design. Once fully completed, it is expected to deliver approximately 470 million kWh of clean electricity to the power grid annually. Compared with thermal power generating the same amount of electricity, it can save approximately 152,400 mt of standard coal each year. The project plans to achieve full-capacity grid connection by the end of December 2026, with subsequent work to advance the handover of remaining ponds, collector line construction, steel tower erection, and cable laying.

On September 20, the National Energy Administration released electricity consumption data for August. Total electricity consumption reached 1,033.2 billion kWh, up 1.7% YoY. Peak electricity load hit 1.56 billion kW, an increase of 49.69 million kW from the previous year's maximum load. By sector, primary industry consumed 16.9 billion kWh, up 2.7% YoY; secondary industry consumed 612.4 billion kWh, up 2.4% YoY; and tertiary industry consumed 215.5 billion kWh, up 5.1% YoY. Residential electricity consumption by urban and rural residents was 188.3 billion kWh, down 4.0% YoY. Emerging electricity demand continued to grow. In August, electricity consumption by battery charging and swapping services and internet data services reached 17.2 billion kWh and 10.2 billion kWh, up 51.2% and 37.9% YoY, respectively. Electricity consumption by high-tech and equipment manufacturing reached 122.2 billion kWh, up 7.2% YoY. From January to August, cumulative national electricity consumption reached 7,173 billion kWh, up 4.3% YoY, with tertiary industry consumption up 7.1% YoY.
