SMM, September 18:
As of September 17, secondary lead finished product inventories stood at 12,400 mt, down 2,200 mt MoM. This week, secondary lead production declined, with a notable contraction on the supply side; coupled with restocking demand from battery enterprises ahead of the dual holidays, spot orders from smelters were tight, driving finished product inventories at plants to continue pulling back. Looking ahead to next week, secondary lead operating rates are expected to remain flat, but high costs of compliant scrap battery raw materials limit production flexibility at smelters; as downstream battery enterprises gradually complete their dual-holiday stockpiling, the pace of destocking in secondary lead plant inventories is expected to slow down.
