[Cost Support Loosens and Inventory Diverges, Magnesium Ingot Transactions Remain Sluggish with Consolidation] Quotes for all grades of magnesium ingot were basically flat. The pullback in coal loosened cost support. Smelter inventory sentiment diverged, downstream users purchased as needed, and export circulation was hindered. Overall transactions were sluggish, and foreign trade of magnesium ingot is expected to continue consolidating in the short term.

SMM Flash, Sep 8:

Today, mainstream quotations for 99.90% magnesium ingot in Fugu were 16,100-16,200 yuan/mt, and mainstream quotations for 99.80% magnesium ingot in Fugu were 16,050-16,150 yuan/mt. China FOB prices were $2,290-2,390/mt. Magnesium ingot prices were flat from the previous trading day.

Transactions in the magnesium ingot market were sluggish overall today, with mainstream quotations holding at $2,290-2,390/mt. On the raw material side, coal prices pulled back, weakening cost support and further suppressing downstream purchase willingness. On the supply side, smelter sentiment was divided. Low-inventory enterprises held prices firm and took a wait-and-see stance, while high-inventory enterprises were eager to sell, with phased low-priced cargoes disrupting the market. High inventory remained the core contradiction weighing on prices. On the demand side, downstream users generally purchased as needed, with little willingness to stockpile. Stricter export supervision led to sluggish shipment flows for traders. In the short term, the magnesium ingot foreign trade market is expected to continue consolidating.

Producers Hold Prices Firm but Deals Cool; Overseas and Domestic Markets Diverge [SMM Magnesium Ingot Spot Express]
[Smelters Hold Prices Firm but Deals Cool, Domestic and Overseas Markets Diverge] Today, magnesium ingot offers in Fugu varied by grade. Domestic smelters held prices firm, but high-price deals met resistance, with downstream buyers making only just-in-time procurement. Pullbacks in coal and ferrosilicon weakened cost support, and bearish sentiment in the market intensified. FOB offers in the overseas market rose in line with domestic ex-works prices. However, clients outside China remained cautious in taking orders, and high inventory levels left elevated offers lacking support from actual transactions. Overall, the market is caught in a tug-of-war between smelters holding prices firm and weak demand both domestically and overseas. In the short term, magnesium ingot prices are expected to move sideways.

Deli Tech and Ideal Auto Roll Out Lightweight Magnesium Alloy Rear Floor, Aiding EV Efficiency
【SMM Magnesium Flash】Recently, the magnesium alloy one-piece die-casting rear floor sample jointly promoted by Deli Technology and Ideal Automobile was officially rolled off the production line. The project completed mold development, equipment debugging, and process verification in just three months, relying on the Bühler 9200T die-casting equipment to successfully achieve high-quality molding of large thin-walled magnesium alloy components. Magnesium alloy has a density of only two-thirds that of aluminum alloy and one-quarter that of steel, and the weight reduction effect can be translated into longer endurance and lower energy consumption. The roll-off of this sample marks the transition of large-scale magnesium alloy one-piece die-casting from the laboratory to the mass production workshop, which is expected to accelerate the lightweight process of new energy vehicles.
