【Rajasthan Power Plants’ Coal Stocks Fall to Four Days as Daily Supply Shortfall Reaches Around 24,000 Tonnes】

Published: Sep 8, 2026 13:12

Monsoon rainfall has severely disrupted operations at captive coal mines supplying power plants in India’s Rajasthan state, reducing average deliveries from 14–15 coal rakes per day to seven. The state’s power plants require around 24 rakes daily, with each rake carrying approximately 4,000 tonnes, but are currently receiving only about 18 rakes. This leaves a daily shortfall of six rakes, equivalent to around 24,000 tonnes. Coal India has provided additional rakes, but the gap has not been fully closed, leaving the plants with only around four days of coal stocks.

At the same time, units at the 1,200-MW Kalisindh thermal power plant are offline for maintenance, adding to pressure on the state’s electricity supply. To meet peak demand and maintain grid stability, Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited has operated the 330-MW Dholpur Combined Cycle Gas Power Plant continuously since September 1. However, its generation cost exceeds Rs 35 per unit, several times the cost of conventional power.

Cenergy Holdings' steel pipes segment, Corinth Pipeworks, has been awarded the line pipe supply package for the Rovuma LNG Phase 1 Project in Mozambique, awarded by the Area 4 partners led by ExxonMobil Moçambique. Valued between USD 200-250 million, the contract calls for approximately 250 km (120,000 tonnes) of longitudinally submerged arc welded (LSAW) steel pipes, ranging from 20 to 24 inches in diameter, for the project's offshore pipeline network, with scope also including anti-corrosion and concrete weight coating. Production will take place at Corinth Pipeworks' Thisvi facility in Greece. The Rovuma LNG project, operated by Mozambique Rovuma Venture, is expected to have a production capacity of 18.6 million tonnes per annum of LNG.

[European Commission Reopens Anti-Dumping Probe on Chinese PSC Wires and Strands for Third Time]
The European Commission has initiated a third expiry (sunset) review of the anti-dumping measures on certain pre- and post-stressing wires and wire strands of non-alloy steel (PSC wires and strands) originating in China, following a request submitted by the European Stress Information Service (ESIS) on behalf of the EU industry. The measures, first imposed in 2009 at a duty rate of up to 46.2% and last extended in 2021, are being reviewed amid claims that their expiry would likely lead to a recurrence of dumping and injury to EU producers. The applicant points to significant spare production capacity in China and the attractiveness of the EU market in terms of both size and price.
