[Energy Storage: Google-funded virtual power plant launches in the San Francisco Bay Area]

PG&E, together with Google and Rewiring America, has launched the SHARE virtual power plant program, which will orchestrate approximately 21,000 existing home batteries, smart thermostats and other distributed energy resources across the Bay Area while subsidizing battery-enabled heat pumps, targeting around 12 MW of flexible capacity by 2028. The program is fully funded by Google, with eligible customers in Santa Clara and Alameda counties receiving discounts of at least $5,000 toward heat pump installations. The pilot combines enrollment of existing devices with privately funded new technology deployment and is expected to begin supporting the grid in fall 2026.

[Solar: Hanoi proposes household rooftop PV and storage subsidies of up to VND 6 million]

The Hanoi People's Council is seeking public feedback on a 2026-2030 draft resolution subsidizing self-consumed rooftop solar and battery storage. Households installing at least 1 kWp of PV would receive VND 1 million per kWp capped at VND 3 million, while storage of at least 2 kWh would receive VND 1 million per kWh capped at VND 3 million, for a combined maximum of about VND 6 million (USD 228). Hanoi accounts for roughly 15% of Vietnam's electricity demand and relies largely on power transmitted from elsewhere, putting growing pressure on its distribution network.

[Energy Storage: Saudi Arabia signs over $1.16bn storage service agreements for 2 GW of BESS]

Saudi Arabia's Power Procurement Company has signed four storage service agreements for battery energy storage system projects totaling 2 GW of installed capacity, with each project rated at 500 MW and four hours of duration, representing a combined investment of over $1.16 billion. Three projects were awarded to a consortium of Saudi Energy, ACWA and Al Sharif, while Al Khushaybi went to a consortium of ENGIE and Haji Abdullah Alireza. All are delivered under a build-own-operate model, supporting the national target of roughly 50% renewables in the generation mix by 2030.
