SMM, September 3:
This week, prices of coke-based raw materials used in anode materials in China rose overall. Among them, the industry average price of oil-based green needle coke was raised by 50 yuan/mt to 7,500 yuan/mt, breaking a sideways stalemate that had lasted nearly a month; the industry average price of low-sulphur petroleum coke edged up to 4,755.5 yuan/mt. This week's market movement was driven mainly by improving supply-demand conditions and cost support. Rigid demand in the carbon used in aluminum production sector remained stable, while anode materials entered the traditional September peak season stockpiling window. Downstream production schedules continued to climb, and the destocking process advanced steadily, providing positive feedback to upstream coke prices. Looking ahead, with anode material production schedules staying high during the peak season and cost-side support remaining relatively strong, prices of coke raw materials for anode production are expected to be more likely to rise than fall overall.
