[Silicon: EU launches interim review of anti-dumping duties on Chinese silicon metal]

Published: Sep 2, 2026 09:10
The European Commission has formally initiated an interim review of anti-dumping duties currently applied to silicon metal imports from China, covering both dumping and injury. The review follows a request filed by Euroalliages on behalf of the EU silicon metal industry on July 8, 2026. The investigation will assess whether silicon metal from China has been sold into the EU at less than fair value and whether such imports have caused material injury to EU producers. Ferroglobe said underpriced silicon metal imports have remained a key pressure on Europe’s silicon industry, while production shifts from China to alternative sources such as Angola may add further pressure.

Silicon coal prices rise in some regions, with few polysilicon spot transactions [SMM Silicon-based PV Morning Meeting Summary]
[SMM Silicon-based PV Morning Meeting Summary] Silicon metal: Yesterday, SMM oxygen-blown #553 silicon in east China was around 9,500 yuan/mt, and #441 silicon was around 9,500-9,700 yuan/mt. On the supply side yesterday, silicon enterprises held firm quotes, and some suppliers slightly raised their offers. Affected by long positions taking profits and exiting, the most-traded futures contract pulled back weakly. Downstream users stayed on the sidelines, with transactions limited to rigid demand. Low-priced cargoes were scarce in the market, and the price center consolidated at highs. Polysilicon: Quotes for N-type recharging polysilicon were 38.8-42.5 yuan/kg. Currently, producers' quotes are relatively stable, with very few transactions in the market. Downstream users showed some resistance to high-priced resources. On-site energy consumption inspections have resumed in some regions, giving the market some confidence in improvement.

[Solar: Waaree invests $37 million to expand Arizona module plant from 1 GW to 1.6 GW]
Indian PV manufacturer Waaree Energies is investing $37 million to expand its Arizona module facility from 1 GW to 1.6 GW while consolidating its Gujarat operations. The move lifts Waaree's total US capacity to 4.8 GW — 3.2 GW in Texas plus 1.6 GW in Arizona — with the upgrade introducing advanced high-efficiency technology including G12R monocrystalline TOPCon bifacial cells. The company will relocate equipment from two Gujarat plants totaling about 2.1 GW to its Chikhli site by December 31, 2026, to optimize costs. Waaree's module output rose 41.5% year on year to 3.24 GW in the first quarter of fiscal 2026, and it holds 25.8 GW of module and 5.4 GW of cell capacity.

Denmark installed 336.7 MW of solar in the first half of 2026, an 11% increase year on year, bringing cumulative capacity to 5.4 GW, according to figures from the Danish solar association Dansk Solcelleforening. Growth is driven by larger-scale projects, with 271 MW of utility-scale installations above 1 MW switched on in H1, up from 208 MW a year earlier. Rooftop solar continues to decline, with residential deployments falling from 36.3 MW to 28.2 MW and C&I from 55.2 MW to 37.2 MW. The Danish Parliament is preparing new regulations to make PV installation on public buildings simpler and more attractive, expected to enter into force on September 14.
