Weekly Magnesium Inventory Up 2.03% as Supply Rises, Demand Stays Weak

【SMM Weekly Magnesium Inventory Express】This week, the inventory of primary magnesium smelters across the country rose by 2.03% month-on-month. On the supply side, primary magnesium smelters in Shaanxi have resumed production after centralized maintenance, keeping magnesium ingot supply at a high level; on the demand side, the recovery of downstream sectors remains inconspicuous, resulting in ineffective inventory digestion. It is expected that as weekly primary magnesium output continues to pick up, producers will still face inventory accumulation pressure under the loose supply-demand pattern.

According to research, the reduction in primary magnesium supply continued this week: a new smelting enterprise in the main production regions adopted a rotational maintenance approach, while multiple manufacturers in Xinjiang remained in a shutdown and maintenance state. The combination of the two factors led to a larger reduction than increment in overall output, resulting in a downward trend in weekly output. However, as two manufacturers in the main production regions resume production one after another next week, the weekly output is expected to turn upward.
