[SMM Flash News] China Mobile Invested an Additional 3.35 Billion Yuan in Huawei Ascend

Published: Aug 28, 2026 09:04

On August 26, 2026, China Mobile released the bid evaluation announcement for the 2026 capacity expansion and the 2026–2027 supplementary procurement of AI supernodes for its Hohhot intelligent computing center. Across the two periods, the cumulative awarded value reached 3.35 billion yuan, with deployment of more than 10,000 cards, all based on Huawei Ascend (CANN ecosystem).

[Data]

- This round (Phase II): 3,840 cards (480 sets), approximately 1.29 billion yuan excluding tax

- Phase I (April): 6,208 cards, 2.06 billion yuan

- Sub-lots: Yangtze Computing, PowerLeader Computer, Henan Kunlun, and Huakun Zhenyu shared the awards; Package 1: Yangtze 1,920 cards/621 million yuan, PowerLeader 768 cards/248 million yuan; Package 2: Henan Kunlun 768 cards/283 million yuan, Huakun Zhenyu 384 cards/142 million yuan

- Deployment: Hohhot data center (one of the largest computing power periods nationwide)

[SMM Comment]

Rationale: Operators continued to expand capacity with domestically produced computing power, and Ascend supernodes (8,192-card interconnect, 1 EFLOPS under FP8) became the mainline for large-scale clusters. Comparative factors: Huawei Ascend shipped 812,000 units in 2025, accounting for 49.2% of domestic production; the 950PR’s single-card compute reached 2.87 times that of the H20. Impact on the industry chain: The share of domestic GPUs in operators’ centralised procurement increased, validating that “domestic substitution” moved from a slogan to scaled deployment.

Spain Unveils Renewable Energy Mandate for Data Centres, Targeting 80% Green Power Use
The Spanish government has unveiled plans to require data centres to have at least 80% of their hourly generation powered by renewable energy. The policy targets AI-driven data centre consumption growth and will drive deployment of solar and storage at data centre sites. Spain is an emerging European data centre market. The regulation could serve as a template for other EU countries. Data-centre-sited solar and storage indirectly drives copper demand in modules, inverters, transformers and connecting cables.

[SMM Computing Power Flash] Spot 4090 Rental, Monthly Rent 7,800 yuan
SMM learned that a computing power channel provider recently released spot rental resources to the market across multiple models: 30 RTX 4090 servers in spot supply at a monthly rental of 7,800 yuan per unit per month; 16 RTX Pro6000 units in spot supply, with an additional 64 units available within four weeks; 128 RTX Pro6000D units in spot supply; 128 high-end complete systems in spot supply; and brand-new SK hynix DDR5 ECC memory modules in spot supply, deliverable in Hong Kong, China. SMM believes that the 4090 monthly rental of 7,800 yuan is higher than SMM’s current Pearl River Delta reference range for 4090 eight-card systems of 7,500–7,600 yuan/month (as of August 14), that the 4090 rental price has upside potential, and that spot supply of mid-to-high-end consumer-grade computing power continues to be released.

[SMM Computing Power Flash] State-Owned Capital Platform in the Pearl River Delta H200 Five-Year Long-Term Lease at Monthly Rent of 120,000
SMM has learned that a state-backed industrial development group in the Pearl River Delta recently released to the market long-term rental resources for H200 computing power: 128 units, expandable to 256 units; a tax-inclusive monthly rent of 120,000 yuan per unit per month; payment terms of two months' deposit and one month's rent; signing required by a strong entity; delivery within two months; a five-year fixed-price long-term contract; IB networking; and a data center located in Guangdong. SMM believes that the five-year fixed-price level is basically flat compared with the current H200 market short-term rental price of 122,000-128,000 yuan/month; the long-term rental segment has not shown a discount, and the supplier's pricing stance is firm.
