SMM August 27 Flash:
On August 27, mainstream quotations for national standard 99.9% magnesium ingot in Fugu area stood at 15,750-15,850 yuan/mt, and for national standard 99.8% magnesium ingot at 15,750-15,850 yuan/mt; FOB China prices were $2,240-2,340/mt.
On August 27, domestic magnesium ingot mainstream quotations were 15,750-15,850 yuan/mt, and the market was in the doldrums overall. Domestic supply was ample overall, but quality low-priced supply gradually tightened, with some specifications showing structural tightness. Downstream mainly made just-in-time procurement, trading sentiment was sluggish, and the supply-demand weakness pattern persisted. Prices consolidated near cost lines, with limited downside room. On the foreign trade side, mainstream FOB quotations stood at $2,240-2,340/mt. Overseas inquiries recovered slightly, but no substantial demand recovery emerged, and the market was dominated by a small number of spot orders. Price competition for shipments persisted in the industry, the transaction center continued to move downward, and coupled with exchange rate fluctuations squeezing export profits, traders faced high risks in taking orders, mostly holding a cautious wait-and-see sentiment and temporarily suspended taking orders. Overall, both Chinese and overseas markets were weak simultaneously. In the short term, magnesium ingot market conditions are unlikely to see significant improvement. Going forward, focus will be on downstream restocking pace and production cuts developments on the domestic supply side.
