Indonesian President Subianto Prabowo announced the launch of a plan to build 100 GW of solar power capacity, targeting completion within three years. The plan was officially launched in Bali, where the president emphasized, "this is no joke," and positioned it as a core initiative of the national energy transition.

As of April this year, Indonesia's total installed capacity stood at about 108 GW, of which solar accounted for only 1.5 GW, and coal remained the dominant power source; renewable energy (including hydropower and geothermal) accounted for 17.9% overall. If all 100 GW of PV capacity is completed, solar will become the mainstay of the country's electricity supply.

Indonesia's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Lahadalia Bahlil, pointed out that once the project is fully completed, it could save 73,900 billion rupiah (approximately 28 billion yuan) in annual energy subsidy spending. Indonesia is currently a net oil importer, and its domestic fuel consumption depends on large-scale subsidies.

Subianto Prabowo stated that, combined with existing geothermal resources, newly discovered natural gas fields, and increased oil extraction, the 100 GW solar capacity will mean Indonesia no longer needs to import any oil. In his state of the nation address in mid-August, he proposed plans to add 30 GW of PV capacity in 2026 alone, including building a 1 MW power plant in every village, and leveraging this to shut down 13 GW of diesel power plants ahead of schedule.
