[Solar: Trump signs executive order banning some foreign equipment from US power grid]

President Trump on August 26 signed an executive order declaring a national emergency and barring the purchase or installation of certain foreign-made bulk-power system equipment and associated critical software in the US grid, Reuters reported. The White House said the move addresses cybersecurity and operational risks, and the order also directs the Energy Secretary to impose conditions on the continued use of already-installed equipment. Reuters noted this is Washington's latest action targeting Chinese technology risks, after the European Commission earlier this year banned Chinese-made inverters from publicly funded energy projects. Domestic manufacturers such as SolarEdge and Enphase are expected to benefit.

Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has finalized four 15-year Storage Services Agreements covering a combined 2 GW/8 GWh of utility-scale battery storage, marking the first phase of the Kingdom's large-scale BESS programme. The four projects, each rated at 500 MW/2,000 MWh under a build-own-operate model, represent an investment of more than $1.16 billion. Three projects (Al Muwyah, Haden and Al Kahafa) went to a consortium of Saudi Energy, ACWA Power and Al Sharif, while the fourth, Al Khushaybi, was awarded to a consortium of France's Engie and Haji Abdullah Alireza & Co. Saudi Arabia targets 48 GWh of storage by 2030, with this portfolio representing about one-sixth of that goal.

[Solar: Plug-in solar panels go on sale in the UK for the first time]

Following a UK government rule change, plug-in solar panels became legally available at retail from August 27, with Argos the first retailer to stock them and Amazon, Currys, B&Q and others expected to follow. The panels can be hung on balconies or fences and plugged directly into wall sockets, with output capped at 800 watts — enough to cover up to 20% of an average home's daytime electricity use and save up to £110 a year on bills. One-panel kits currently cost around £699, with the government expecting prices to settle at £400-600 as competition grows.
