SMM August 26 News:
Today, the futures saw a relatively wide gain, with divergent spot market sentiment in South China. The marginal tightening of arrivals, coupled with significant destocking, emboldened sellers. Most holders stuck to their strategy of holding prices firm and slow selling, with only a few making small concessions under month-end capital pressure; overall cargo flow remained under control without a notable increase in volume. On the demand side, downstream players had low acceptance of the rapid price rise, showing no intention to chase the rally, and instead turning cautious and reducing purchases. Fortunately, traders maintained a relatively strong level of just-in-time procurement, along with major players' aggressive bidding and market-making, which boosted intermediate activity. Under the tug-of-war between sellers and buyers amid competing factors, intraday trading was lukewarm. Spot transactions were concentrated at a premium of 210-250 yuan/mt over the SHFE aluminum 2609 contract.
