SMM August 26:

Today, China's waste lead-acid battery market prices held steady. Smelter quotations were unchanged, and recycler buying prices stabilized temporarily, as prices had just been adjusted recently, causing the market to wait and see. Recycler sentiment improved, and they were confident in future prices. However, available supply of scrap batteries remained tight, with over 60% of recyclers believing there was room for short-term price increases of 50-100 yuan/mt. In the short term, supported by tight supply and recyclers' bullish sentiment, scrap battery prices might see slight increases. However, lead price upside room was limited by sluggish downstream demand and diversion from imported lead. It was expected that scrap battery prices would consolidate on a strong note and move sideways in the short term. Attention should be paid to lead price trends, supply release from stores, and changes in smelter purchasing demand.
