Platinum continued to consolidate today, with the market focusing on the Jackson Hole symposium and this week's PCE data guidance, as policy expectations remained unclear. In early trading, the most-traded GFEX platinum contract PT2610 closed at 459.9 yuan/g, down slightly by 0.01%; the ask price of platinum 9995 on the SGE and the PT2610 contract price spread remained at around 2 yuan/g.
On the spot side, the mainstream quotations for platinum were a discount of 3-2.5 yuan/g against the PT2610 contract. The discount quoted by suppliers was basically flat compared with the previous trading day. Market supply was relatively ample, making transactions generally difficult. Downstream inventory was also relatively ample, with limited purchase willingness. Overall, trading in the spot platinum market today was relatively sluggish.
