[Dysprosium Oxide Continues to Strengthen, Pr-Nd Stagnant and in the Doldrums, Metal Enterprises Suspend Quotations and Wait Due to Oxide Fluctuations] Currently, the overall circulation frequency of rare earth ore remains poor, the market trading situation is stagnant, and the weak oxide prices cause the actual transaction price of rare earth ore to also see a downward shift in its center.

SMM August 26 news:

Rare Earth Ores:

Price: The price of medium-yttrium, europium-rich ore is about 246,000 yuan/mt, monazite price is about 43,000 yuan/mt, and rare earth carbonate price is about 58,800 yuan/mt.

Supply and Demand: Currently, the overall circulation frequency of rare earth ores remains poor, market trading is stagnant, and weak oxide prices have caused actual transaction prices of rare earth ores to shift downward in center.

Rare Earth Oxides:

Price: Market prices of Pr-Nd oxide and terbium oxide experienced relatively small fluctuations; dysprosium oxide prices further rose.

Supply and Demand: Yesterday, the trading atmosphere in the Pr-Nd oxide market remained sluggish, suppliers' quotes were firm, and Pr-Nd prices continued to be stagnant with relatively small fluctuations. In medium-heavy rare earths, although terbium oxide quotes edged up, actual transaction conditions showed no significant changes for now. Dysprosium oxide prices further rose, driven by increased market inquiries and purchases.

Rare Earth Metals:

Price: Pr-Nd alloy prices were in the doldrums, the market trading atmosphere was relatively sluggish, while dysprosium-iron alloy and terbium metal prices continued to rise.

Supply and Demand: Yesterday, Pr-Nd alloy prices were in the doldrums, the market trading atmosphere was relatively sluggish. Some metal enterprises slightly lowered their quotes. Although prices overall remained firm, actual market transactions were still weak. In the medium-heavy rare earth market, affected by the continued tightening of low-priced oxide supply, dysprosium-iron alloy and terbium metal prices continued to rise. However, some metal enterprises chose to suspend quotes and wait-and-see due to large fluctuations in oxide prices.

NdFeB Blanks:

Price: NdFeB blank N35 (Ce) closed at 206-216 yuan/kg, NdFeB blank 35M closed at 257-267 yuan/kg, and NdFeB 35UH closed at 351-371 yuan/kg.

Supply and Demand: Yesterday, NdFeB blank quotes temporarily stabilized. The core reason was that stable raw material prices kept NdFeB quotes steady. In terms of transactions, in the last week of August, most downstream motor factories and end-users gradually resumed operations. The frequency of export order inquiries increased, but actual order quantities were limited, and overall market trading volumes were moderate.

NdFeB Scrap:

Price: The price of Pr-Nd recycled from NdFeB scrap edged up, while the prices of dysprosium recycled from NdFeB scrap and terbium recycled from NdFeB scrap remained stable.

Supply and Demand: Yesterday, scrap market prices edged up, mainly driven by just-in-time procurement by recycling enterprises. External procurement quotes were slightly raised. Some scrap suppliers sold small amounts to cash out, but most suppliers remained on the sidelines. The circulation volume of compliant tax-included scrap in the market edged up, and overall trading performance improved.

Australian Government Tightens Scrutiny on Chinese Investors in Rare Earth Project Amid Security Concerns
[SMM Rare Earth Flash] The Australian government recently escalated its scrutiny of investors linked to China in rare earth developer Northern Minerals. This May, Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers ordered six China-linked shareholders to sell their combined holdings by July 2, citing national security concerns. After the shareholders failed to comply, the government froze part of the shares in July and imposed new conditions on Qogir and Real International Resources in August, requiring government review of any share sales. Northern Minerals is developing the Brown Ranges heavy rare earth project in Western Australia, which it says could become an "important cornerstone" of dysprosium and terbium supply outside China. The project has previously received up to $250 million in debt financing from Australia's export finance agency and the US Export-Import Bank, but shareholder disputes have hindered negotiations with US government financing agencies.

Ucore Rare Metals Produces High-Purity Pr-Nd Samples Using RapidSX™ Technology in Ontario Facility
[SMM Rare Earth News] Canadian rare earth refiner Ucore Rare Metals recently announced that its commercial demonstration facility in Kingston, Ontario, has successfully produced high-purity (99.5%) Pr-Nd samples from two different raw material sources. The company used about 2 mt of mixed rare earth oxides from a Vietnamese ion-adsorption clay ore source and about 5 mt of mixed rare earth carbonates from a North American bastnaesite ore source. This achievement validates the versatility of Ucore's patented RapidSX™ rare earth separation technology platform for multiple raw materials with vastly different rare earth element compositions. The technology is chemically identical to conventional solvent extraction but offers faster throughput and a smaller equipment footprint. The company plans to achieve scaled production of Pr-Nd as well as samarium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, and yttrium at the Louisiana Strategic Metals Complex (SMC).
