[SMM Flash News] Norway Extends Sørlige Nordsjø II Offshore Wind Licence Deadline by One Year

Published: Aug 25, 2026 23:10

Norway's Ministry of Energy has granted Ventyr SN II AS a 12-month extension to complete the project-specific impact assessment and submit its licence application for the Sørlige Nordsjø II offshore wind project, moving the deadline to October 15, 2027. Ventyr is a partnership between JERA Nex bp and Ingka Investments.

Ventyr requested the extension in June, mainly to allow additional time to assess an alternative landfall and grid-connection route near Alcoa's facility at Lista. The ministry concluded that further assessment of the alternative route provided sufficient grounds for extending the application period.

Ventyr won the project area in Norway's first offshore wind auction in March 2024 with a bid of NOK 1.15/kWh. Sørlige Nordsjø II represents Norway's first major commercial offshore wind development, making progress on its licensing and grid connection an important indicator for the country's broader offshore wind rollout.
