Greenland Grants Exploration License to Greenland Mines for Sarfartoq Rare Earth Project

Published: Aug 25, 2026 13:42
Greenland Mines announced on the 21st that the Greenland Business and Mineral Resources Authority has directly granted the company the exploration license for the Sarfartoq carbonatite complex. This approval, obtained under the Greenland Mineral Activities Act, satisfies one of the key regulatory closing conditions for the company's acquisition of the Sarfartoq project from Neo Performance Materials for $35 million. As part of the transaction, Neo will receive offtake rights for up to 60% of the ore or concentrates production from the Sarfartoq project. The company said Sarfartoq is "the fastest-advancing and most competitive rare earth project in Greenland," characterized by high grade and favorable logistics conditions.

Rare Earth Market: Pr-Nd Under Pressure Pulls Back, Medium-Heavy Rare Earth Continues Strong [SMM Rare Earth Daily Review]
[SMM Rare Earth Daily Review: Pr-Nd Under Pressure with Pullback, Medium-Heavy Rare Earth Continues to Hold Up Well] On the whole, the rare earth market shows mixed performance. Pr-Nd products experienced slight price pressure due to sluggish inquiry activity, while medium-heavy rare earth products continued to hold up well supported by tightening low-priced supply sources and increased inquiries. The overall spot transactions in the rare earth market remained in a stalemate. It is expected that in the short term, Pr-Nd product prices may move sideways in a narrow range; for medium-heavy rare earth, supported by the persistent difficulty in finding low-priced supply sources, prices of products such as dysprosium, terbium, and holmium are likely to consolidate on a strong note.
