[Vietnam] TISCO Plans Technology Upgrade at 450,000-Tonne Luu Xa Steel Plant
Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel (TISCO) plans to overhaul the technology at its Luu Xa Steel Plant by replacing EAF No. 2 with a basic oxygen furnace (BOF), while maintaining the plant’s nominal capacity at 450,000 tonnes of steel billets per year. The upgrade aims to reduce electricity consumption and production costs by increasing the use of liquid iron, with the BOF expected to account for around 400,000 tonnes/year of output. The project comes as actual production remains below designed capacity, reaching around 217,000 tonnes in 2025, suggesting the focus is on improving efficiency and competitiveness rather than expanding capacity.
