SMM August 24 News:

China's domestic waste lead-acid battery market prices were raised overall today, with most smelters raising purchase quotes by 50-100 yuan/mt, mainly for EV batteries. Recyclers followed by raising recycling prices by 50 yuan/mt. With recent lead price stability and the start of the school season, the number of battery replacements at shops increased. The sentiment of large shop owners holding back from selling has eased, and some shops began to gradually release supply. A recycler in south-west China reported that recycling volume over the past two days rebounded 10-20% WoW. Individual smelters noted that scrap battery arrivals to plants were average, and available scrap battery supply remains tight. Currently, smelters' procurement is mainly for immediate needs, while recyclers maintain a fast-in-fast-out sales model. It is expected that scrap battery prices will remain stable in the short term, moving sideways in a narrow range. Attention should be paid to supply releases from shops during the school season and changes in smelters' procurement demand.
