[SMM Analysis] China’s Galvanized Steel Sheet Exports Edge Higher in July as Middle East Orders Recover

According to the latest customs data, China’s galvanized steel sheet exports totaled 1.10 million mt in July 2026, up 2.63% MoM but down 8.14% YoY. Cumulative exports from January to July reached 7.8066 million mt, down 3.87% YoY.

According to the latest customs data, China’s galvanized steel sheet exports totaled 1.10 million mt in July 2026, up 2.63% MoM but down 8.14% YoY. Cumulative exports from January to July reached 7.8066 million mt, down 3.87% YoY.

By destination, the Philippines ranked first, importing 177,000 mt of galvanized steel sheet from China in July. Thailand ranked second, with imports of 104,000 mt, accounting for 9.43% of the total. Vietnam ranked third, importing 80,000 mt, or 7.27% of total exports.

China’s galvanized steel sheet exports increased slightly in July from June, broadly in line with previous expectations. Although South Korea began imposing provisional anti-dumping duties on galvanized cold-rolled steel originating from China in mid-June, which put some pressure on Chinese galvanized steel sheet exports to South Korea, orders to the Korean market continued to decline in July. Meanwhile, as the phase of large-scale military conflict between the US and Iran came to an end, orders for Chinese galvanized steel sheet in the Middle East showed some recovery in June and July, providing a modest boost to overall exports.

Looking ahead to August, China’s galvanized steel sheet exports are expected to see limited growth from July. On the one hand, there have been signs of a recovery in orders from the Middle East. However, uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz remains high, and overall orders have yet to fully recover, meaning the contribution to export growth is expected to remain limited. On the other hand, anti-dumping measures in South Korea, Brazil and Japan continue to weigh on some export orders. Overall, after considering the increases and declines across major markets, China’s galvanized steel sheet exports are expected to have limited room for growth in August.
