SMM August 21 News:

Today, China's waste lead-acid battery market remained stable overall, with some smelters raising prices by 50-100 yuan/mt, mainly for EV batteries. Some recyclers slightly increased recycling prices by 50 yuan/mt. As lead prices stabilized and rose recently, coupled with expectations for the traditional peak season, large stores held back from selling more, and the shortage of scrap batteries was not alleviated. A smelter in northern China reported that the daily recycling volume of scrap batteries was only about 200 mt; most recyclers currently sold as per the market without holding inventory, maintaining a quick buying and selling model. Recycling smelters still suffered losses, which limited the room for purchase price increases, while the tight supply of circulating scrap batteries provided downside support. In the short term, scrap battery prices are expected to move sideways, and continuous monitoring of changes in downstream lead-acid battery enterprise procurement demand, the actual situation of battery replacement after the arrival of the traditional peak season, and the release of inventory from stores is needed.
