Brazilian iron ore shipments reached 189.4 million metric tons in the first half of 2026, marking a 2.4% year-on-year increase and generating $13.43 billion in export revenue. Concurrently, iron ore producer Samarco announced a massive R$13.8 billion investment to elevate its pellet production capacity from 15.1 million to 26 million metric tons by 2030. The strategic expansion aims to fully restore the company's output potential to levels seen prior to the 2015 Mariana dam collapse.
