【Thungela’s Ensham Output Rebounds 38% as Export Sales Rise to 9.5 Mt】

Production at Thungela Resources’ Ensham thermal coal mine in Australia increased 38% year on year to 2.2 million metric tons in the first half of 2026, supported by improved management of geological and mining conditions. Better South African rail logistics and stronger Ensham production lifted Thungela’s total export sales by 12% to 9.5 million metric tons.

Benchmark coal prices in South Africa and Australia increased by 15% and 25%, respectively. Combined with higher production and export sales, this lifted headline earnings per share to 4.80 rand from 1.92 rand a year earlier. Thungela expects to produce between 13 million and 13.6 million metric tons for the export market in 2026. Moreover, the company is studying opportunities to increase Ensham’s output beyond its current annual level of approximately 4 million metric tons.

[99,000 Cubic Meter Ultra-Large Ethane-Ethylene Carrier Delivered Today]

Today (the 18th), China’s self-developed 99,000 cubic meter ultra-large ethane-ethylene carrier was officially handed over to its user, with technical specs hitting world-leading levels. The newly delivered ship is 230 meters long and can carry ethane, ethylene, liquefied petroleum gas, and other liquefied industrial or energy gases. It’s fuel-efficient, low-maintenance, and built for long-haul trips—basically an eco-friendly and cost-effective vessel. Yuan Shizhen, chief designer of the 99,000 cubic meter ultra-large ethane carrier series at CSIC Jiangnan Shipyard, said the ship mainly supports domestic petrochemical companies with ethane transport. It comes with an axle generator and an ethane main engine, cutting sulfur emissions by 99% and hydrocarbons by 18%, giving a real boost to green shipping.

[Customs: July China’s Big Four Home Appliance Exports Released]

The latest data from the Customs shows that in July 2026, China exported 3.81 million air conditioners, down 0.7% year-on-year; from January to July, cumulative exports were 42.97 million units, down 4.3% year-on-year. July exports of refrigerators were 7.49 million units, up 4.9% year-on-year; cumulative exports from January to July were 53.9 million, up 13.1%. July washing machine exports reached 3.02 million units, up 3.9% year-on-year; cumulative January–July exports were 21.56 million, up 9.2%. July exports of LCD TVs were 7.79 million units, down 20.1% year-on-year; cumulative exports from January to July were 57.73 million, down 0.9% year-on-year.
