Rio2’s Condestable Produces 9.3 Mlb of Copper in Q2, Keeps 2026 Guidance

Published: Aug 14, 2026 13:13
Rio2 Limited’s Condestable mine in Peru processed more than 700,000 tonnes of ore in Q2 2026, producing 9.30 million lb of copper, 4,451 oz of gold and 74,374 oz of silver contained in concentrate. Average ore grades were 0.66% copper, 0.24 g/t gold and 3.88 g/t silver. Copper grades came in below plan due to higher internal dilution in certain mining areas, particularly in June, while copper recoveries remained slightly below expectations because of higher oxide content near the base of oxidation. Condestable maintained its February–December 2026 payable copper-equivalent production guidance at 21,500–23,500 tonnes. Rio2 is also advancing ore-sorting trials, a tailings filtration plant and a preliminary assessment to expand processing capacity to 10,000 tpd, with pilot ore-sorting equipment expected to arrive before November 2026. Current reserves and resources support an estimated 14-year mine life.

Antofagasta Cuts 2026 Copper Output Guidance
Antofagasta reported a 27% year-on-year increase in first-half EBITDA to $2.84 billion, supported by higher copper prices despite lower production. The company declared an interim dividend of 30.1 cents per share, up from 16.6 cents a year earlier. However, Antofagasta cut its 2026 copper production guidance to 625,000–655,000 tonnes from the previous 650,000–700,000 tonnes, following a July shutdown at Los Pelambres after extreme rainfall in Chile’s Coquimbo Region. The company said major infrastructure was not significantly affected, but some pipeline platforms and water management systems require repairs. First-half cash costs fell 8% year-on-year to $1.22/lb, though full-year costs are expected to rise by 20 cents to $2.60/lb due to persistently high fuel prices.
