[SMM Steel] Supply Shortages Ease and Trading Slows; Turkish Rebar Prices Fall Again

Published: Aug 11, 2026 15:46
[Turkey] Following minor fluctuations last week, domestic rebar quotes continued to fall by 2 USD/tonne to 578 USD/tonne EXW (excluding VAT), as supply shortages of certain small-diameter rebars in the Marmara region eased and market trading remained sluggish. Specifically, some mills in the Marmara region lowered their offers to 595–596 USD/tonne, while mainstream ex-works prices in other regions fluctuated between 571–575 USD/tonne. Currently, the high prices are difficult for buyers to accept, and traders remain unwilling to replenish inventories, focusing mostly on clearing existing stocks. On the export front, market performance was sluggish due to a seasonal decline in demand, with mainstream rebar export quotes holding steady at 580–585 USD/tonne FOB.

[SMM Steel] Alang Ship Recycling Weekly Update
[India] India’s Alang ship recycling market saw improved buying sentiment last week with buyers becoming more active after several vessels were recently diverted to Chattogram and Gadani. Despite subdued domestic steel demand, Alang plate prices rose from 401USD/tonne (38,300 INR/tonne) to 411USD/tonne (39,200 INR/tonne) on Friday, supported by a stronger rupee. Indicative recycling prices remained steady at 442-447 USD/LDT for tankers and 452-457 USD/LDT for containers. Market participants expect the stronger bidding interest reflects improving confidence in Alang, although overall market fundamentals remain soft.

[SMM Steel] India HRC Exporters Resist Lower Vietnam Bids; Billet Offers at 450-455 USD/tonne FOB
[India] Indian HRC offers held at around 515 USD/tonne CFR Vietnam, against bids near 500 USD/tonne CFR, as weak downstream demand and competitive local supply kept Vietnamese buyers cautious. Export indications stood at 510-520 USD/tonne FOB India, while freight of 120-130 USD/tonne implied 630-650 USD/tonne CFR Europe, where a large Indian producer was heard to be active recently. Indian billet offers were around 455 USD/tonne FOB East Coast, versus domestic prices of 441 USD/tonne (42,100 INR/tonne) EXW Mandi Gobindgarh. Meanwhile, a deal for 20,000 tonnes of billets was heard at 450 USD/tonne FOB Indian Port for delivery in West Asia.
