South Korea’s Industry and Climate Ministries to Cooperate on Used Battery Industry Development

South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment announced on August 7 that they signed an MOU in the morning to strengthen mutual cooperation in used battery policy.

They plan to unify battery history management and distribution systems that had been divided between the two ministries and link them with the recycled raw material certification system.

The agreement defines used batteries containing critical minerals such as lithium, nickel and cobalt as strategic resources rather than simple waste.

Through these measures, the government aims to stabilize the supply chain for used batteries as next-generation strategic resources.
