Magnesium ingot futures edge down, end-users are cautious in restocking [SMM Magnesium Ingot Spot Express]

[Magnesium Ingot Futures Edge Down; End-Users Hold Back Cautiously on Restocking] Today, magnesium ingot prices consolidated on a subdued note in a narrow range. Upstream producers held prices firm, but downstream users waited on the sidelines and only made just-in-time procurement; foreign trade was under pressure and offered concessions. In the short term, the market was stagnant and weak, lacking recovery momentum.

SMM August 3 Flash News:

Today, the mainstream quotations for 99.9% magnesium ingot under the national standard in the Fugu area were 15,900-16,000 yuan/mt, and for 99.8% magnesium ingot under the national standard were 15,850-15,950 yuan/mt; China’s FOB (Free On Board) prices were quoted at $2,250-2,350/mt.

Today, the magnesium ingot market drifted slightly lower. Ex-factory quotations from upstream producers in China were generally stable, with room for price discussions in actual order negotiations. Enterprises on the supply side still maintained a certain mentality of holding prices firm. However, downstream inquiries in China were sluggish, the market was enveloped in a heavy wait-and-see atmosphere, and coupled with rising bearish sentiment on the market, prices weakened slightly. The market relied solely on just-in-time procurement to maintain liquidity, lacking batch restocking activities. Prices were in a tug-of-war within a narrow range, trending weak. In foreign trade, affected by continuous pressure from overseas downstream buyers to push for lower prices, actual spot transaction prices showed concession and loosening. The tug-of-war between sellers and buyers in China and overseas entered a stalemate. Traders generally resisted dumping at low prices. In the short term, there was no support for upward movement. Market recovery needs to await the release of concentrated orders after the overseas summer break ends. At the current stage, magnesium prices as a whole will maintain an in-the-doldrums pattern of weak operation.

【SMM Analysis】Flood Impact Fades! Manganese Sulfate Market Ends Short-lived Upward Trend
Sentiment in China’s battery-grade manganese sulfate market has gradually returned to rationality, as the flood-related factors that previously lifted prices in Guangxi continue to ease.In early July, continuous heavy rainfall and floods hit major production areas in Guangxi. Rising river levels and disrupted logistics forced multiple manganese sulfate producers to suspend operations for safety inspections and equipment maintenance, triggering a temporary shrinkage of available spot supply.

【SMM Analysis】Lithium Manganate Prices Follow Lithium Carbonate; 3C Off-Season Slows Demand Recovery
Domestic lithium manganate market edged down slightly before stabilizing this week. Its price movement is highly correlated with lithium carbonate, lacking independent driving factors. Major producers maintain steady operation and prioritize deliveries to long-term clients. Ample supplies remain in the market without large-scale production cuts.

Integrals Power chosen for UK government-funded project to develop LMFP battery technology for defence and EVs
Integrals Power, a British battery technology firm, will take part in a £2 million, 30-month battery innovation project funded by the UK government, supplying hundreds of kilograms of its self-developed lithium manganese iron phosphate (LMFP) cathode material. Led by battery supplier Denchi, the project seeks to develop advanced battery technologies for defence and electric vehicle applications. Pouch and cylindrical cells will be manufactured at the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC), before being assembled into battery packs for validation. Integrals Power states its LMFP material eliminates the need for critical minerals such as cobalt and nickel, and can be produced using feedstocks sourced from Europe and North America. Compared with conventional LFP, it delivers up to approximately 20% higher energy density, alongside superior safety, cost competitiveness and enhanced performance, making it suitable for defence, automotive and other use cases. In the initial phase, the project will adopt Denchi’s existing military BB-2590 battery pack design. The original NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) cells will be replaced with LMFP cells for validation and testing in applications including military radios, sensors, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and backup power supplies.
