Samsung SDI Announces Q2 Earnings

Samsung SDI announced on July 30 that its Q2 revenue stood at KRW 3.7688 trillion, with operating profit of KRW 203.8 billion. Revenue increased 18.5% YoY and 5.4% QoQ.

The company returned to operating profit for the first time since Q3 2024. Its battery division posted revenue of KRW 3.519 trillion and operating profit of KRW 159.3 billion, supported by increased sales of batteries for uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems and battery backup units (BBUs), high-output batteries for power tools, and EV batteries for Europe.

These long-term PPAs involve three solar projects with a total capacity of approximately 469 MW (AC side). Under these PPAs, upon full commissioning of the three projects, the company will supply Tesla with approximately 1,200 GWh of electricity annually in the US. The first project is expected to begin supplying power in H1 2027.

MIIT Repeals and Revises NEV Used Battery "Second-Life" Policy Standards
[MIIT: Repealing and Revising NEV Used Power Battery "Second-Life Application" Policy Standards] The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has issued an announcement on repealing and revising new energy vehicle (NEV) used power battery "second-life application" policy standards and regulating related industry activities. The "second-life application" clauses in the *Industry Standards for Comprehensive Utilization of NEV Used Power Batteries* are repealed. The management of enterprise announcements for "second-life application" will no longer be conducted, and enterprises already announced as "second-life application" enterprises will be removed from the list of enterprises conforming to the industry standards for comprehensive utilization of NEV used power batteries. The list of enterprises already announced for disassembly recycling remains valid. Battery products produced by enterprises using used power batteries must meet the quality standards and requirements of their application fields. No organization or individual may use whole used power batteries, or their components processed through splitting, reorganizing, assembling, or related techniques, in the form of battery packs, modules, or cells, in e-bikes or other fields where such use is prohibited by laws, administrative regulations, and mandatory standards.
