Media reports on July 29 said BMW Group plans to offer voluntary severance packages to thousands of employees in Germany as part of its cost-cutting drive to sharpen competitiveness. The automaker aims to slash roughly 8,000 positions globally, most of which will be based in Germany. The voluntary exit scheme mainly covers staff in R&D, product planning and other corporate functions, while production line workers are excluded. The group also plans to streamline management tiers in the coming months. The programme is scheduled to kick off in October and run through 2027.
