Hydro and Mercedes-Benz Expand Partnership for Recycled, Low-Carbon Aluminum in EVs

[SMM Aluminum Express News] Hydro and Mercedes-Benz have expanded their partnership to increase the use of recycled and low-carbon aluminum in Europe, with Mercedes-Benz becoming the first automotive manufacturer in Europe to use Hydro CIRCAL in series production for its next generation of large electric vehicles. The recycled aluminum contains at least 75% post-consumer scrap, up from around 25% in the material currently supplied, while Hydro will also provide additional volumes of its low-carbon Hydro REDUXA primary aluminum. The partnership aims to reduce the carbon footprint of automotive aluminum while strengthening regional and circular supply chains. Hydro and Mercedes-Benz will continue collaborating to decarbonize the aluminum value chain, building on their existing partnership covering low-carbon aluminum sourcing and circular manufacturing initiatives.

The rise in aluminum prices caused a notable decline in market procurement sentiment. During the day, some suppliers quoted at around parity against the SHFE aluminum 2608 contract, and market price acceptance remained weak. Mainstream transaction prices mainly ranged from a discount of 10 yuan/mt against the SHFE aluminum 2608 contract to parity with it. In east China, the shipment sentiment index today was 3.13, down 0.03 from the previous trading day; the procurement sentiment index was 2.90, down 0.10 from the previous trading day.
