【SMM Aluminum Flash News】Yongmaotai to Focus on Magnesium Alloys and Components for Automotive Lightweighting Goals

Published: Jul 28, 2026 17:08
During a research visit, Yongmaotai stated that the company will focus on the development of magnesium alloy materials and robot components in the future. Automotive lightweighting is a green and new productivity development direction strongly advocated by the state, effectively contributing to energy conservation, emission reduction, speed improvement, and extended range in the transportation sector. A key approach to automotive lightweighting is material lightweighting, and magnesium alloys, with their low density, impact resistance, electromagnetic shielding, and strong recyclability, have become excellent lightweight materials. Automakers are accelerating the application of magnesium alloys, moving from "trial applications in small and medium-sized parts" to "mass production of large components." Based on the goal of the "Energy Saving and New Energy Vehicle Technology Roadmap 2.0" to reach 45kg of magnesium per vehicle by 2030, it is estimated that this could generate an additional market demand of approximately 50 billion yuan annually.

SHFE Aluminum Prices Rise Amid US-Iran Tensions, Central China Market Sees Sluggish Transactions
Amid fluctuations in the US-Iran conflict, the night session saw SHFE aluminum prices rise. Today, traders and downstream processing enterprises in central China mainly adopted a wait-and-see stance, with low purchase willingness, leading to sluggish market transactions. Some large suppliers held prices firm and held back from selling, while smaller suppliers showed weaker resolve to hold prices, resulting in a significant divergence between quotations and transactions. Ultimately, the actual transaction price range in the central China market was around a premium -100-140 yuan/mt against the SHFE aluminum August contract, with a continued weakening trend.

Coca-Cola Loses Market Share in India Due to Rising Aluminum and PET Costs, Supply Shortages
[SMM Aluminum Express News] Coca-Cola said rising aluminum and PET resin costs contributed to a loss of market share in India during the second quarter, as higher packaging costs and gaps in its mid-priced packaging portfolio affected competitiveness. The company said aluminum and PET prices increased more than expected, while shortages of aluminum cans also disrupted product availability in the market. The company is responding by adjusting prices, sourcing larger aluminum cans from Southeast Asia, and expanding packaging options to recover market share. Coca-Cola said it remains optimistic about long-term growth in India despite the recent cost pressures and supply chain disruptions.
