[Henan Minfa Cold Rolling Project Successfully Completed Two Key Period Tasks]

Published: Jul 28, 2026 09:36

Recently, the Henan Minfa Cold Rolling Project, undertaken by MCC Jingcheng Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. as the EPC contractor, has successively overcome key periods and successfully completed the A-level pre-delivery inspection of the F3 rolling mill and the first lifting operation of a 63 mt heavy-duty crane. The two significant construction tasks have been accomplished successfully. The completion of these periods marks that the project has officially entered a critical phase of centralized equipment supply and comprehensive installation, laying a solid foundation for the steady advancement of subsequent works and the timely fulfillment of construction targets.

The A-level pre-delivery inspection of the F3 rolling mill is the highest-level overall verification procedure before equipment delivery, directly affecting the core process precision of the cold rolling production line. The project team strictly aligned with the drawings and technical agreements, conducting refined detection on core indicators such as the machining accuracy of the housing, window parallelism, perpendicularity, and geometric tolerances. All parameters met the design standards. This inspection successfully established the original precision benchmark of the rolling mill, providing reliable equipment assurance for subsequent installation, commissioning, reaching full production, and stable control of product quality, thereby consolidating the project’s quality foundation from the source.

[US Urges Mexico to Impose Tariffs on Chinese Steel, Mirroring US Model]
The US has proposed that Mexico impose import tariffs on steel and aluminum from countries outside North America, following the model of US Section 232, in a bid to restrict imports from China and build a common external tariff wall protecting preferential trade terms among the US, Mexico, and Canada. Mexico has expressed willingness to consider the proposal as part of negotiations to review the USMCA trade agreement, though specific tariff rates and product lists remain under discussion, with the US hoping to reach a framework agreement by the end of this year. Currently, the US imposes a 50% tariff on crude steel/aluminum from China and most other countries, while Mexico applies tariffs by product category, up to 25% for countries without an FTA; Mexico had previously offered to significantly cut its imports of Chinese steel to facilitate the talks. The third round of negotiations was recently held in Mexico City, attended by USTR Jamison Greer and Mexican Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard, with the next round expected in Washington in September. Meanwhile, Mexico is also seeking to have US Section 232 tariffs on its own exports, currently 50% on steel/aluminum and 25% on autos, lifted as part of the same USMCA review.

JSW Steel Italy Resumes Piombino Rail Mill Operations After Shutdown
Production has officially resumed at the rail rolling mill operated by JSW Steel's Italian subsidiary in Piombino after being shut down since July 16, 2026, due to consecutive motor failures. The facility, which is a critical supplier for Italy's national railway operator Ferrovie dello Stato, was restarted after temporary weekend repairs were completed by staff. However, local trade unions have criticized the hasty repairs, demanding a comprehensive scheduled maintenance program and new investments to prevent further safety risks and defective output.
