[SMM Flash News] Kazakh Coal Transit Through Russian Ports Jumps 34% in H1 2026

Published: Jul 27, 2026 22:42
Kazakh coal transshipment through Russian Baltic and Southern ports reached 6.7 million mt in the first half of 2026, up 34% year-on-year from the same period last year. The increase was supported by rail cooperation agreements signed between Russian Railways (RZD) and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) in April 2025 to expand coal deliveries to Russian ports. Growth was also aided by the EU's July 2025 decision to exempt transactions involving certain Russian ports from sanctions when used for the transit of Kazakh coal.

[SMM Flash News] Coal India Q1 Profit Misses Estimates on Weak Output and Rising Costs
Coal India reported a 0.6% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to INR 88.52 billion for the first quarter, missing market expectations of INR 99.43 billion. The weaker-than-expected performance was driven by lower coal production and higher operating costs, despite stronger coal price realizations. Coal production declined 7% year-on-year during the quarter, while sales increased 4%. Total expenses rose about 12% to INR 368.16 billion, reducing the company's net profit margin to 19% from 27% a year earlier.
