[AMD to Set Up AI Research Center in South Korea, Building an Open AI Infrastructure Ecosystem]
According to South Korea's Maeil Business Newspaper, AMD (AMD.O) plans to build an AI research centre in South Korea and create an open AI infrastructure ecosystem. The Ministry of Science and ICT of South Korea stated on the 27th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with AMD on AI chip ecosystem cooperation in San Francisco on the 23rd. AMD plans to establish an AI Centre of Excellence in South Korea to provide support for technology collaboration, AI chip software development, computing technology verification, and joint research among South Korean enterprises, universities, and research institutions. It will also promote cooperation with local South Korean AI chip companies. The MOU includes the construction of a heterogeneous AI computing infrastructure that connects AMD’s CPUs and GPUs with South Korean companies' AI chips (NPUs), which have strengths in inference. The two sides also plan to create an open AI computing ecosystem, encouraging the joint participation of South Korean enterprises across areas including memory, networking, servers, and software.
