In June 2026, China's wire and cable exports reached 299,700 mt, up 6.28% MoM and up 17.21% YoY. From January to June 2026, cumulative exports totaled 1.5689 million mt, up 9.74% YoY. Among these, copper wire and cable exports stood at 149,000 mt, up 5.43% MoM and up 21.64% YoY, with cumulative exports from January to June 2026 reaching 782,700 mt, up 16.7% YoY.

The expansion of markets outside China continued, with demand broadly improving across various countries. Australia remained the top export destination, though exports there decreased 21.65% MoM. The Philippines and Vietnam followed, with exports increasing 3.64% and 26.11% MoM, respectively, ranking them second and third among export countries. The combined exports to these three nations accounted for 18.78% of total copper wire and cable exports. Notably, driven by local power grid upgrade demand in the US, total exports to the US rose 13.63% MoM this month.

From the perspective of export provinces, China's copper wire and cable exports remained primarily concentrated in the coastal regions of east and south China. Jiangsu Province continued to lead the nation with exports of 37,300 mt, followed by Zhejiang Province at 22,000 mt and Guangdong Province at 19,700 mt, ranking second and third, respectively. The combined exports of these three provinces accounted for over 50% of the national total, maintaining a stable regional export structure.

Overall, June exports sustained high prosperity, mainly boosted by overseas demand for power grid upgrades and data center construction. However, with the increasing number of enterprises going global, supply-side competition in overseas markets has intensified, squeezing corporate profit margins. Entering July, the seasonal construction off-season arrived, and end-user procurement demand was expected to weaken marginally, causing export growth to narrow.

Zambian Miners Seek Policy Boost for Copper Output and Infrastructure Ahead of Elections
Mining operators across Zambia are formalizing their policy demands ahead of the upcoming national elections, calling on the government to strengthen incentives for local mineral processing, greenfield exploration, and power generation expansion. Industry leaders emphasize that these measures are vital to achieving the national benchmark of tripling annual copper output to 3 million tonnes. This push coincides with a tight physical market, where surging demand for critical metals in electric vehicles, power networks, and construction has driven benchmark copper futures up over 40% in the past year to $14,000 per tonne. Fiscal stabilization and closer engagement with miners have already drawn over $10 billion in committed investment to Zambia since the 2021 election. However, expanding long-term output hinges on resolving critical infrastructure bottlenecks. According to the Zambia Chamber of Mines, maintaining a robust exploration pipeline via greenfield spending and licensing reforms is essential to secure real industry growth. Meanwhile, unintegrated producers continue to advocate for export duty relief on copper concentrates. Industry executives estimate that Zambia needs at least 2,000 megawatts of additional generation capacity to prevent severe power shortages from capping planned mine expansions. Because mining remains the country's economic backbone, contributing 9% of GDP, 72% of export earnings, and nearly half of government revenue, analysts expect general policy continuity for foreign direct investment following the polls.
