[SMM Rare Earth Morning Session Summary] Oxide cost support holds prices firm, Pr-Nd alloy tentatively raises prices

Published: Jul 27, 2026 10:12
[Oxide cost support holds prices firm; Pr-Nd alloy prices tentatively raised] Last week, downstream inquiry activity for Pr-Nd oxide remained persistently sluggish, with some traders selling small quantities at reduced prices. However, upstream suppliers indicated that Pr-Nd oxide output was somewhat tight and were unwilling to sell at low prices. Dysprosium oxide quotations were relatively stable, but some traders offered a small amount of low-priced material. Terbium oxide market quotations were firm.

SMM July 27 news:

Rare Earth Ore:

  • Prices: Rare earth carbonate price is about 61,400 yuan/mt, medium-yttrium, europium-rich ore price is about 253,000 yuan/mt, and monazite price is about 44,000 yuan/mt.

  • Supply and Demand: At present, the overall circulation frequency of rare earth ore remains sluggish, market trading is in a stalemate, and the weak oxide prices have also led to a downward adjustment in the actual transaction prices of rare earth ore.

Rare Earth Oxides:

  • Prices: The Pr-Nd oxide market trading atmosphere remains sluggish, but most factories hold firm offers; dysprosium oxide and terbium oxide quotes remain relatively stable.

  • Supply and Demand: Last week, downstream inquiries for Pr-Nd oxide remained sluggish, with some traders selling at lower prices in small quantities, but upstream suppliers indicated that Pr-Nd oxide output was slightly tight and were unwilling to sell at low prices; dysprosium oxide quotes were relatively stable, but some traders offered small amounts at lower prices; terbium oxide market quotes remained firm.

Rare Earth Metals:

  • Prices: Pr-Nd alloy prices edged up, market trading did not improve, dysprosium-iron alloy prices remained flat, and terbium metal prices edged down.

  • Supply and Demand: Last week, influenced by the recovery in oxide prices, some metal suppliers raised their offers, but downstream magnetic material enterprises had fewer inquiries, market trading performance was poor, and the actual increase was limited. In the medium-heavy rare earth market, inquiries did not improve, and terbium metal and dysprosium-iron alloy prices remained unchanged.

NdFeB Blanks:

  • Prices: NdFeB blank N35 (Ce) was reported at 212-222 yuan/kg, NdFeB blank 35M at 257-267 yuan/kg, and NdFeB 35UH at 357-377 yuan/kg.

  • Supply and Demand: Last week, NdFeB blank quotes edged down, mainly because falling raw material prices dragged down magnetic material offers. In terms of trading, as July drew to a close, many regions in China experienced hot weather, and motor factories and end-users gradually began their summer breaks. Operating rates at motor factories and end-users weakened significantly, and demand for rare earth permanent magnets contracted, ultimately leading to persistently low trading activity in the NdFeB market.

NdFeB Scrap:

  • Prices: Pr-Nd recycled from NdFeB scrap prices held steady, as did dysprosium recycled from NdFeB scrap and terbium recycled from NdFeB scrap prices.

  • Supply and Demand: Last week, scrap market prices held steady. Affected by the relatively small increase in oxide prices, recycling enterprises did not make significant adjustments to their external purchase quotes. However, the circulation of compliant duty-paid scrap is currently limited, and low-priced scrap is hard to find in the market, making scrap procurement still quite difficult.

"Harena Rare Earths Secures $4.84M DFC Funding for Madagascar Project, Aiming to Boost Critical Mineral Supply"
[SMM Rare Earth Express] London-listed rare earth enterprise Harena Rare Earths announced that it has signed a project development funding agreement with the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), securing up to $4.84 million in financial support to advance the development of the Ampasindava ion-adsorption rare earth project in Madagascar. The funding will primarily be used for permitting approvals, environmental and social baseline studies, and the construction of a proof-of-concept pilot plant, providing technical support for the project's final feasibility study and reducing development risks. This reportedly marks the first time DFC has provided direct financial support to the Ampasindava project, reflecting its strategic value in the critical mineral supply chain arrangements of the US and its allies. Harena stated that the initial tranche of funding has already begun disbursement, and DFC has also expressed interest in participating in larger-scale financing once the project enters the construction phase.

Energy Fuels Advances $1.9B Acquisition of German Magnet Maker VAC, Aims for Western Rare Earth Supply Chain
[SMM Rare Earth Flash] US rare earth company Energy Fuels is advancing the acquisition of German permanent magnet manufacturer Vacuumschmelze (VAC), aiming to build a Western integrated supply chain covering rare earth mining, separation, metals, alloys, and permanent magnet manufacturing. According to the previously announced transaction plan, Energy Fuels will acquire VAC for approximately $1.9 billion, with the deal still subject to regulatory approvals such as Germany's foreign investment review, and is expected to close in early 2027. The latest news indicates that the German government is exploring setting conditions for the approval of this transaction, potentially including requirements to safeguard local employment in Germany, retain core intellectual property, and maintain European manufacturing capabilities, in order to ensure that key technologies and the industry chain remain in Europe.
