Overall, in June 2026, China's copper foil imports and exports continued their strong momentum. Imports grew MoM, mainly reflecting the still insufficient self-sufficiency of domestic high-end copper foil, with rigid procurement demand for high-end materials from Taiwan, China and other regions remaining large. Affected by the increase in purchase volume and unit price of high-end products on the import side, the trade deficit for the month widened to $68.8 million. On the export side, benefiting from the substitution window brought by the supply gap in traditional copper foil outside China (as enterprises from Japan and Taiwan, China shift to high-end capacity), coupled with the boost to downstream demand from the energy storage installation rush and high production schedules of power batteries, the overall operating rate of China's copper foil industry rose to 91.48%, providing sufficient supply guarantee for the surge in exports.
