[CATL: 587Ah Large ESS Battery Cell Has Been Delivered at Scale]

CATL released an investor relations activity record announcement, stating that combined sales of power and ESS batteries grew about 60% YoY in H1, with ESS battery sales making up roughly one-quarter. The energy storage market will sustain rapid growth this year and next. The capacity utilization rate was basically saturated in H1. The company has been stockpiling to meet client demand and advancing capacity construction. Domestic ESS sales accounted for a slightly higher proportion than overseas. ESS systems made up close to 70%, and the 587Ah large-format ESS cell has achieved mass delivery. The company is optimistic about the prospects of the AIDC business and can provide complete innovative energy solutions.

LICO Materials and Ather Energy have partnered to establish a collection and recycling system for end-of-life lithium-ion batteries from electric two-wheelers in India. Batteries from Ather's EV fleet will be processed at LICO's recycling facility in Karnataka. LICO stated that its recycling technology can recover up to 95% of valuable battery materials, including lithium, nickel, cobalt, graphite and copper. The recovered materials will be supplied back to battery cell manufacturers and automotive OEMs, supporting a circular battery supply chain. The partnership aligns with India's Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022 and is expected to strengthen domestic critical mineral recovery while reducing reliance on imported battery raw materials.

India Launches Global Tender for 10GWh Grid Storage Battery Manufacturing
India's Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has launched a global tender to select companies for establishing 10 GWh of Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) manufacturing capacity dedicated to grid-scale stationary energy storage applications. The project is part of India's Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for ACC Battery Storage. Tender documents were released on 15 July 2026, with bid submissions closing on 13 October 2026. The 10 GWh capacity forms part of India's broader 50 GWh ACC manufacturing program, backed by a government incentive budget of ₹18,100 crore, aimed at strengthening domestic battery manufacturing and reducing reliance on imported battery technologies.

The African Development Bank has approved up to USD 66 million for Phase I of Egypt’s 500MW Dandara Solar Project, which includes a 100MWh battery storage system. Located in Qena Governorate and developed by Norway’s Scatec, the project will supply renewable electricity to EgyptAlum under a 25-year PPA and a wheeling agreement with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company. The financing includes USD 46 million from AfDB ordinary resources and USD 20 million from the Climate Investment Funds’ Clean Technology Fund. Phase I is scheduled to begin operations in early 2028 and is expected to generate around 1,373GWh annually.
